Senior Software Engineer · Growth & Experimentation

I build features that move revenue.

I'm Andrew Richardson, a senior software engineer focused on growth: onboarding funnels, experimentation, and conversion. Over six years I've shipped the kind of work that shows up on the company's bottom line, at Atlassian, Asurion, Tanium, Postscript, and Amazon.

  • $30M+ Growth revenue contributed
  • $2M+ From a 0-to-1 onboarding funnel
  • +40% Faster on a rebuilt customer dashboard
  • −50% Build times cut through tooling
  • Atlassian
  • Asurion

About

Engineer the part of the product where engineering meets revenue.

I'm a senior software engineer who specializes in growth engineering: the part of the product where engineering meets revenue. That means onboarding funnels, activation, conversion experiments, and the instrumentation that proves whether any of it actually worked.

I've spent six-plus years building large-scale customer experiences in React, TypeScript, and Node.js. At Atlassian I work on cross-product growth features; before that I led teams at Asurion and Tanium, built A/B testing and component infrastructure at Postscript, and got my start as an SDE intern at Amazon. The thread through all of it: I like shipping things you can measure, and I care about the numbers coming back better than they went out.

At a high level, I'm passionate about making an impact at scale and seeing the tangible benefits. I'm energized by shipping confidently and seeing customers happy.

I also have a background in brand and visual design, which is why this site looks the way it does. I think engineers who care about craft on both sides are rare, and rare is my thing.

Selected work

A few projects with a number attached.

Each card leads with the metric. The story is in the engineering, not the product category.

  • $30M+ Contributed to revenue

    Atlassian

    Cross-product growth features

Led multiple growth initiatives spanning several products, from concept to launch. The combined work contributed more than $30M to the business. I focused on the funnel mechanics (how users discover, adopt, and convert) and on shipping experiments that gave clear, trustworthy answers.

    React · TypeScript · Node.js · Experimentation tooling
  • $2M+ New revenue

    Atlassian

    0-to-1 onboarding funnel

Built a new cross-flow onboarding and growth funnel from nothing. It added over $2M in revenue and became a repeatable pattern for getting new users to value faster. Needed to instrument all new end-to-end metrics for the funnel to validate its success.

    Senior Software Engineer · 2025–present
    Stack
    React · TypeScript · Node.js · Experimentation tooling
  • +40% Faster than the previous build

    Asurion

    Customer dashboard rebuild

Rebuilt the authenticated account experience used by 20+ partners and 250k+ monthly visitors with React server-side rendering. The new version was 40% faster than its predecessor and roughly doubled developer velocity for the team building on it. I led four engineers through the effort.

    Role
    Staff Software Engineer · 2023–2025
    Stack
    React · SSR · Node.js · Webpack
  • 6 months from inception to delivery

    Tanium

    Interactive exportable reporting

Led four engineers building interactive, exportable reports generated from client dashboards. The interesting part was the delivery: standalone HTML documents with the application bundle attached directly to the file, so a report stayed fully interactive with nothing else installed.

    Role
    Software Engineer · 2022–2023
    Stack
    TypeScript · React · Node.js · Webpack · Go

Writing

Essays on the engineering side of growth.

I write about growth engineering: the practical, technical side of experimentation, onboarding, and conversion that most growth content skips. How to instrument experiments so the data isn't lying to you, how to build onboarding that actually moves activation, and the mistakes I've watched cost real money.
